What is Moira?
Moira is a web tool for classical, Hellenistic astrology paired with Jungian psychology. It reads your birth chart the way the tradition did for two thousand years — as a map of character and timing, not a forecast of events.
How is Moira different from other astrology sites?
Most astrology sites generate a daily horoscope. Moira doesn't. It uses classical techniques — sect, planetary dignity, annual profections, whole-sign houses — to describe the terrain you're working with, then leaves the choices to you.
Does Moira predict the future?
No. Moira treats your chart as a map and time as weather — it describes conditions and themes, not fixed outcomes. The question is always which road you take.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Your birth time sets your rising sign and house placements, so an accurate time gives you the full reading. If you don't know it, Moira still works from your date and place — you'll get your planetary positions and sect, without the house-based layer.

What is "sect" in astrology?
Sect is the classical distinction between day charts and night charts, based on whether the Sun was above or below the horizon at your birth. It changes which planets act as your benefics and malefics — including when Mars is out of sect — one of the oldest and most overlooked layers in a chart.
What is an annual profection?
Annual profection is a classical timing technique: each year of your life activates one house of your chart and its ruling planet, the "lord of the year." It points to which area of life is in focus for your current age.
What is Hellenistic astrology?
Hellenistic astrology is the original Greco-Roman system, developed around the 1st century BCE, that most later Western astrology grew out of. It's built on whole-sign houses, sect, and dignity — the techniques Moira uses directly, rather than the sun-sign horoscopes that came much later.
