Annual profections are counted from birthday to birthday. If your birthday has already happened this year, use your current age.
2. Start with your rising sign
Age 0 begins with the first house. Age 1 moves to the second. Age 12 returns to the first. The cycle repeats every twelve years.
3. Read the house and its ruler together
The house names the life area. Its traditional ruler — the lord of the year — gives the planetary tone. Moira calculates this from your birth data so you do not have to count by hand.
PROFECTIONS VS ZODIACAL RELEASING

Annual profections are age-based and simple: each year activates one house and its ruler. Zodiacal releasing is more layered: it divides life into longer chapters and sub-periods from a calculated starting point.
In practice, profections answer “Which room of life is lit up this year?” while zodiacal releasing asks “Which long arc is unfolding?” They can agree, conflict, or describe different levels of the same story.

HOW TO READ THE LORD OF THE YEAR
The house names the topic; the ruler gives it a voice.
Annual profections do not stop at naming a house. Once the active house is known, the traditional ruler of that house becomes the lord of the year. Its sign, house, sect condition, dignity and aspects shape how the year is interpreted.
For example, a seventh house year is not automatically “a relationship year” in the same way for everyone. If the lord of the year is Saturn, the year may ask for boundaries, commitment or sober negotiation. If it is Venus, the same house may be read through attraction, repair, art, desire or agreement.
The natal placement of the lord of the year matters, and so do current transits to that planet. This is why Moira treats the annual profection as a foundation, then connects it to timing windows and chart context instead of turning it into a one-line prediction.
