THE FOUR LINES

A body does four different things depending on where it stood.

AC · RISING

Where it met you

The ascendant line is every place where the planet was coming over the eastern horizon at your birth. Here the planet and the place meet directly — how you arrive, how you are seen arriving, what the body itself feels like there.

DC · SETTING

Where it met someone

The descendant is the same degree going down. What rises in you arrives in other people here: partners, clients, opponents, and the terms other people set. The same planet, delivered by somebody else.

MC · CULMINATING

Where it stood overhead

The midheaven line follows every longitude where the planet was crossing your local meridian — the highest point it reaches. This is the public register: work, reputation, visibility, what cannot stay private.

IC · HIDDEN

Where it went underground

Opposite the midheaven: the same planet at its low point, at home rather than on show. Roots, family, the private room, the part of the matter nobody photographs.

GEOMETRY

Why two are straight and two curve

MC and IC depend on longitude alone, so they are vertical meridians. AC and DC tilt with latitude, so they bend — which is why one is drawn once and the other is solved latitude band by latitude band.

OPPOSITES

Never one thing

Each degree also draws half a circle away. A Venus ascending line has a Venus descending line on the far side of the world. Reading one without the other reads half a sentence.

THE SEVEN BODIES

What each line carries with it.

The following are the classical bodies Moira draws, and what each one brings to whatever angle it lands on. There is no good line and no bad line in this list — Saturn asked for duration asks for something you may not want to give, and Venus asked for ease may cost you as much as it comforts.

Sun — direction

Being seen, and being oneself on purpose. Sun lines tend to make a place matter rather than make it pleasant.

Moon — belonging

Daily rhythm, nesting, memory, the feeling of having been here before. Moon lines are about ordinary life being liveable, not about events.

Mercury — exchange

Writing, study, trade, movement between things. Mercury lines describe traffic more than arrival.

Venus — attraction

What draws you, and what you draw. Affection, taste, money as a language, ease — and the bill that tends to arrive with it.

Mars — friction

Appetite, drive, heat, argument. Mars lines are rarely restful and rarely dull.

Jupiter — widening

More room: opportunity, teaching, travel, generosity, and the excess that comes with all of them.

Saturn — narrowing

Less room, held longer: time, limits, responsibility, work that counts in years. Not a punishment — a specification.

ALL 28 LINES

The whole set, in one reference.

Seven bodies on four angles. Each classical planet has four lines, listed here so you can check what you see on your map.

On the ascendant — where the body meets how you arrive

On the descendant — where the body arrives through other people

On the midheaven — where the body becomes public

On the IC — where the body turns private

WHAT A LINE DOES NOT DO

The part most maps leave out.

It is modern, not ancient

Astrocartography was assembled in the twentieth century. The astronomy underneath it is real and checkable; the interpretation is not a doctrine handed down from the classical corpus. Moira treats it as a lens, and says so.

Four minutes is a degree

The Earth turns 15° an hour, so every four minutes of birth time moves all 28 lines by about one degree of longitude: 111 km at the equator, 79 km at the latitude of Paris, 56 km at Oslo, and less again nearer the poles. A map drawn without a birth time is an orientation, not a result. If yours is missing, try the birth time confidence check before trusting a single line.

Closer is not automatically better

Standing exactly on a Mars line is not an achievement, and living 800 km away does not spare you anything. Distance speaks to intensity of flavour, not to quality of outcome.

Geography is not a decision

A line does not guarantee work, love, money, health or safety. Nothing here replaces professional medical, legal or financial advice, and Moira never prices a relocation report on the claim that it does.

WHERE MEETS WHEN

A map answers where. It has never answered when.

Tap any place on your map and Moira can also compute the days, over the next twelve months, when a transiting planet stands exactly on an angle of the chart relocated to that place. Moving does not change a single planetary longitude — it only swings the four angles — so those are the only points worth watching, and only conjunctions are listed, because an opposition to the ascendant already appears as a conjunction to the descendant.

None of those dates is a recommendation. They are the days the sky touches that version of your chart, given so that timing can be argued about with evidence rather than guessed. To turn one into a real question — should I move for this job, is this the year, what happens if I wait — take it into career timing, marriage timing or family timing, where a full cycle is read with dates, windows and the technique behind each claim.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you draw the map.

What is an astrocartography chart?

It is a world map of your birth moment. Each line marks the places where one planet stood on one of the four angles — rising, setting, overhead or opposite overhead — at the instant you were born.

What is a Venus line?

The Venus line is the set of places where Venus was on an angle at your birth: Venus rising (AC), setting (DC), culminating (MC) or hidden (IC). People look it up because Venus governs attraction, affection, taste and money — but it has the same four registers as every other body, and none of them promises anything.

How many lines should a map show?

Seven classical bodies on four angles gives 28 lines. This free calculator includes the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. It does not include outer planets, nodes or asteroids.

Do I need to register or pay?

No. The map, all 28 lines, the reading for any point you tap and the twelve-month timing list are free and need no account.

Why does my line stop before the pole?

Above roughly 72° latitude the ascendant is undefined for stretches of the day, because the horizon there cannot always meet the ecliptic. Rather than extend a line through places where the geometry has no answer, Moira breaks it.

How accurate are the lines?

Every root is refined against the Swiss Ephemeris and dropped when the true angle is more than half a degree off. You can check any line yourself: MC lines are vertical, MC and IC sit exactly 180° apart, and the Sun's MC line falls on the meridian where it was local noon for your birth instant.

Can I check if the map is right?

Yes. Every response carries the UTC instant it was drawn from and the technique note, so any ephemeris can reproduce it. Read the methodology for how Moira handles this across every product.

What if I only know where I want to go?

Draw the map, tap that place, and read what lines cross it — then ask when, which is usually the harder question.
