Free Solar Return Chart Calculator
Calculate the exact annual return of the Sun to its birth position. Choose a birthday year and, optionally, a different return city to see the return chart alongside your birth chart.
What is a solar return chart?
A solar return chart is cast for the moment the Sun returns to the same tropical zodiac longitude it held at your birth. That moment occurs near your birthday each year, though the clock time and even the calendar date can differ from your birthday.
This calculator first finds your natal Sun longitude. It then searches near the birthday in your selected year until the solar longitude matches. It draws the return chart for the chosen location, and reports the UTC instant so you can check the result against another ephemeris.
How to read the result
Begin with the exact return time
Keep the UTC timestamp with your result. A Sun return near 1 January can fall in the preceding UTC year. The year field refers to the birthday you are examining, so a result on the previous 31 December can still be correct.
Look at angles and houses
The return Ascendant begins the first Whole Sign house. The other houses follow in zodiac order. Look at which planets are close to the angles and how their signs relate to your natal chart. The result lists exact positions, not a guaranteed forecast.
Compare the return and natal planets
The aspect table compares return points with natal points. Use the closest contacts to form questions about work, relationships or home, then bring in your actual circumstances. The natal Sun and return Sun should meet closely by construction; that contact is a calculation check rather than a special prediction.
Which location should I use?
You can use your birthplace, where you live now, or a city you want to examine. Those choices reflect different interpretive approaches. Changing the location changes the horizon and houses, while the planets’ geocentric zodiac longitudes and the UTC return instant remain the same.
If you are comparing places for a move, the astrocartography calculator answers a different geographical question: where planets were on the angles at your birth. Keep those two techniques distinct.
Solar returns and annual profections
A solar return is a newly calculated sky chart for a precise instant. An annual profection advances a natal house according to age. They can be compared as separate techniques; one is not a substitute calculation for the other.
For a work or relationship decision, add the practical situation when you ask a question. A yearly chart does not know the terms of a job offer or another person’s intentions.
Frequently asked questions
Is the solar return calculator free?
Yes. The return timestamp, two-ring chart, classical planetary positions and natal aspect table are free without an account.
Do I need an accurate birth time?
Yes. The natal Sun longitude depends on the birth instant, and that determines the return time. This calculator requires a birth time. If the historical time-zone offset must be estimated, the result displays a warning.
Why is my solar return not exactly on my birthday?
The calendar year and the time needed for the Sun to return to a particular longitude do not line up exactly. The return can occur on a nearby date and at a different time of day.
Does location change the exact solar return time?
No. The geocentric Sun reaches its natal longitude at one UTC instant. Location changes the return chart’s Ascendant and houses.
Which zodiac and house system does this calculator use?
It uses the tropical geocentric zodiac, Swiss Ephemeris with the Moshier calculation, seven classical bodies and Whole Sign houses.
Can this chart predict the events of my year?
A solar return can be interpreted as an astrological reference. It cannot reliably determine events, guarantee money or health outcomes, or replace practical and professional advice.
