What Planets Are in Retrograde Today?

Check Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. See each planet’s direction for the selected date and the next time it changes direction. No birth details or account are needed.

Daily status at 12:00 UTC. A planet can change direction earlier or later that day; exact station times are listed in UTC.

Is Mercury in retrograde today?

The result above gives Mercury’s calculated direction at 12:00 UTC on the selected date. It also lists the next station, the moment Mercury changes apparent direction. If the next station is direct, the current retrograde period is approaching its end; if it is retrograde, the next period has yet to begin.

For a date close to a station, compare the exact UTC station time with your local clock. A daily label cannot describe every hour of the day. If you want the personal context, use the transit chart calculator to compare Mercury’s position with your own natal chart.

What does retrograde mean?

Retrograde describes a planet appearing to move backwards along the zodiac from Earth’s perspective. It is an apparent change of direction, not a planet reversing its orbit. This tracker measures tropical geocentric longitude: a negative longitudinal speed means retrograde and a positive speed means direct.

The Sun and Moon are not included because their apparent zodiac motion is not retrograde. The eight planets shown here can have retrograde periods of different lengths and frequency. Several outer planets may be retrograde at once; that alone does not identify a personal crisis.

How are the station dates calculated?

Moira uses Swiss Ephemeris with the Moshier calculation. It samples each planet’s speed forward from the selected date, finds the next sign change in longitudinal speed and refines the crossing to about one minute. The search is bounded to 400 days. A missing next station means none was found in that window, not that the planet never changes direction.

The result states its UTC sample time and calculation method. Public results for the same date may be cached because they describe the same sky for everyone. They do not use your birth data.

What should I do with a retrograde date?

You can use it as a prompt to review plans, check details or revisit unfinished conversations. Practical checks matter on direct days too. A retrograde label cannot tell you whether a message will fail, whether a relationship will return or whether an investment will succeed.

Read the Mercury retrograde guide for a grounded introduction, or ask about a specific situation rather than treating the general sky as a personal verdict.

Frequently asked questions

Which planets are retrograde right now?

The checker calculates Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto at 12:00 UTC on the selected date. Look at the dated result above; a station during the day can change the status after that snapshot.

How can I tell when Mercury retrograde ends?

If Mercury is retrograde at the sampled time, its next direct station marks the change to direct apparent motion. The checker lists that station in UTC. Shadow periods are a different concept and are not calculated here.

Do I need my birth time to use the retrograde tracker?

No. Planetary retrogrades describe the shared geocentric sky. You need birth details only when you want to compare that sky with your personal chart.

Can I check a past or future date?

Yes. The date selector accepts calendar dates from 1900 through 2100 and uses the same calculation method for each.

Do retrogrades predict bad luck?

No. Apparent planetary motion is a calculated sky condition. It does not reliably predict an accident, illness, financial loss or relationship outcome.
