Nothing here is a preference you have to accept on trust. These are the settings the engine actually runs on — published so you can reproduce any result elsewhere, and see where a difference comes from.

- Tropical, geocentric No sidereal offset, no ayanamsa. A sign means one thing everywhere in Moira.
- Houses
- Whole sign The first house is the sign of the ascendant, and each house after it is the next whole sign. Placidus, Koch and equal houses are never mixed in.
- Time zone
- Historical offset, not today’s Local birth time is converted with the offset in force at that place on that date. Where it cannot be confirmed, the offset is estimated from longitude and the result says so.
- Precision
- Shown to 0.1° Positions are displayed to a tenth of a degree — the resolution at which two correct implementations can still differ in the last digit.
You can check this yourself
Every chart prints the exact degrees it used for the Sun, the Moon and the ascendant. If another site disagrees, check in this order: rounding of the birth time, historical time zone, house system, aspect orbs. Almost every disagreement is one of the first two.

How are Today, this month and this year different?
Today compares current planetary transits with your saved natal chart. The monthly view shows the monthly profection in its annual context. The yearly report combines Firdaria and annual profections, with supporting timing evidence. Exact birth time is needed for reliable house-based timing.
Do I need a birth chart before asking a question?
Yes. Personal questions use your saved natal chart and current transits. If your chart is missing, Moira saves your question and asks you to add birth details before generating a reply or using a reply credit.
Do I need my exact birth time?
An exact birth time is needed for a reliable Ascendant, houses and day/night sect. Without it, Moira limits the reading to usable planetary data and excludes time-sensitive Moon, house and sect interpretations.

What is "sect" in astrology?
Sect is the classical distinction between day charts and night charts, based on whether the Sun was above or below the horizon at your birth. It changes which planets act as your benefics and malefics — including when Mars is out of sect — one of the oldest and most overlooked layers in a chart.
What is an annual profection?
Annual profection is a classical timing technique: each year of your life activates one house of your chart and its ruling planet, the "lord of the year." It points to which area of life is in focus for your current age.
What is Hellenistic astrology?
Hellenistic astrology is the original Greco-Roman system, developed around the 1st century BCE, that most later Western astrology grew out of. It's built on whole-sign houses, sect, and dignity — the techniques Moira uses directly, rather than the sun-sign horoscopes that came much later.
